Microphone Guidelines

  • Place the microphone clip onto the shirt in such a way that it will not rub or touch any part of your clothing. When the microphone rubs against clothing, loud scratching sounds are heard on the broadcast and web stream.
  • If you feel the need to sneeze or cough, the best way to deaden the sound is to place your hand flat above the microphone, without touching it directly. This will eliminate almost all of the noise, as microphones only capture the sounds from directly above.
  • Remind the students frequently to press and hold their student microphone buttons. They tend to get shy and will avoid pressing them whenever they think they can get away with it.
  • Touch or handle the microphone itself unless absolutely necessary while the class is underway. The Media Specialist will let you know if there are any audio problems you need to concern yourself with. The exception to this rule is if the microphone falls off your shirt. When this happens, the Media Specialist will hear it drop, and will immediately lower its audio. Replace the microphone as carefully as possible.
  • Place the microphone belt pack in your pocket where it will jingle against keys or spare change. Unpleasant feedback will interrupt the audio on the broadcast and web stream.
